STEP 1

Every October, Earth passes through a cloud of dust left behind by a comet, and the tiny particles burn up as they enter our atmosphere.
This creates the Draconid meteor shower, which takes its name from the constellation Draco, the dragon, where the shooting stars appear to come from.
In 2026, the shower peaks on the night of October eighth to ninth, when the Moon is barely one percent full and the sky is very dark.
Unlike most meteor showers, the Draconids are best watched right after sunset — you do not need to stay awake until the middle of the night.
The shower's parent body, comet 21P/Giacobini-Zinner, last visited the inner part of our solar system in 2018, leaving the trail of dust that Earth crosses each year.B2

look-alike 단어: meteor vs. meteorite

STEP 4

debris
Meteors are produced when Earth passes through a stream of debris left by a comet.
radiant
The shower's radiant lies in the constellation Draco, giving it its name.

The comet follows an orbit that brings it close to the sun every six and a half years.
periodic
주기적인, 정기적인 · periodical(정기 간행물)과 혼동 주의
The Draconids are a periodic shower that returns every October.

천체의, 하늘의 · terrestrial(지구의, 육지의)와 혼동 주의
Comets and meteor showers are among the most visible celestial events.
vaporise
Most particles vaporise completely in the upper atmosphere before reaching the ground.
